Cuba won the three fights faced today during the initial date of the Continental Boxing Championship that takes place in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil.
Erislán Romero (51 kg), Rafael Joubert (60) and Jorge Moirán (63.5) did their homework on Colombian Juan Sebastián Palacios, Barbadian Peter Murray and Costa Rican Yader Uriel Centeno, in that order.
The first two won unanimous decisions, his partner won by a split vote and they all advanced to the quarterfinals on Saturday, when Damián Arce (54) and world bronze medalist Herich Ruiz (86) will also make their debut.
Then Romero will collide with the Guatemalan Felipe Mijango, Joubert with the Panamanian Moisés Rodríguez and Moirán with the Colombian José Manuel Viafara, who joined the winners in the opening session of a men’s fight that brings together 122 competitors.
The Island squad, without actions this Friday, is completed by Billy Rodríguez (48), destined to debut for silver on Sunday.
