The initiative, called “Against menstrual poverty”, is led by the Miss Gordita Paraguay Organization, a contest that was born in 2012 and leads campaigns for women’s rights.

In this second year, the campaign started in Barrio Santa Ana, in Asunción, which, according to a statement from the organizers, is “an area with enormous deficiencies.”

Deliveries will continue for a month in different locations.

The organizer of the contest, Mike Beras, told Efe that each kit delivered today was made up of a towel and a protector.

In total, he assured, they donated around a thousand sets of products for feminine use.

The donations were financed by members of the organization, relatives, friends and small businesses.

Tatiana Aquino, who was crowned Miss Gordita Paraguay in 2021, participated in the day, among others.

This week, the Chamber of Deputies approved a bill that seeks to make the free delivery of menstrual elements mandatory to girls, adolescents and women in educational, public health, prison or homeless spaces.

The initiative passed to the evaluation of the Senate and, if endorsed, must receive presidential sanction to enter into force.
