Government wants to expand municipalities that inspect animal products

The Ministry of Agriculture launched this Thursday (24), in Brasília, the second edition of the Project for the Expansion of Municipalities Integrated to the Brazilian Inspection System for Products of Animal Origin (Sisbi-POA), through the Municipal Public Consortia (Consim ). Government wants to expand municipalities that inspect animal products

The initiative aims to provide training for technicians from municipalities and agricultural companies to develop their inspection services for products of animal origin. The main focus is the inclusion of these services in the Sisbi-POA, which allows the meat, milk, fish, eggs, honey and their derivatives agribusinesses to market the products throughout the national territory.

Sisbi-POA is the platform that standardizes the inspection requirements for this type of product, of animal origin, giving a kind of seal of agricultural health.

Despite having been regulated in 2006, the Sisbi-POA only gained more traction in the inclusion of new municipalities from 2019 onwards, when training agreements began to be made through inter-municipal consortia.

According to the Secretary of Agricultural Defense, José Guilherme Leal, the system went from 246 to 559 municipalities covered in the last three years, from 12 to 22 states covered. In addition, the number of certified products rose from 5,000 to almost 10,000 in the same period. “In three years, we doubled Sisbi”, he celebrated.

In this second edition of the Consam Project, 32 new inter-municipal consortia have already been selected, covering nine Brazilian states (BA, CE, MT, MG, RS, SP, SC, PR and RJ). Altogether, around 520 municipalities may be included in the Sisbi-POA at the end of the training, which should involve around 30,000 people across the country.

“Everyone will benefit from this policy, which I hope will be increasingly strengthened in the Ministry of Agriculture. In these three years, we have doubled what we had, but now we have to multiply much more, because we have a lot to achieve,” he said. Minister Tereza Cristina, during the project’s launch event.
