NBA player uses his shoes to denounce Ortega's crimes

Through his Twitter account, the NBA basketball player Enes Kanter Freedom, denounced the crimes against humanity committed by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.

The athlete of Turkish origin and naturalized American designed his shoes with the theme of the more than 170 political prisoners locked up in the different prison systems of Nicaragua.

“177 political prisoners —of the Ortega regime— remain imprisoned in subhuman conditions,” denounced the 31-year-old basketball player, who attached photos of his blue and white shoes.

As for the repression that Nicaragua’s political opposition is experiencing at the hands of Ortega, Freedom pointed out that “the Nicaraguan security forces – Police and paramilitaries – and the dictator Daniel Ortega are persecuting, torturing and killing dissidents.”

Regarding the victims of the repression, he indicated that “since 2018, more than 350 Nicaraguans have been murdered, 3,000 imprisoned and 140,000 sent into exile.”

This is the first time that an NBA athlete speaks out about the political situation in Nicaragua and the repression of which all opponents and critics of the Sandinista Front are victims. Enes Freedom is currently without a team, the last season —2021-2022— he played for the Boston Celtics team.
