The Senate Chamber approved this Wednesday the government’s request to extend the State of Exception in 15 days in the provinces of Arica, Parinacota (not counting the urban radius of the city of Arica), Tamarugal and El Loa (excluding the urban radius of Calama), in the framework of the migratory crisis in the north of the country.
The request obtained 41 votes in favor, one against and one abstention. The rejection was from Senator Fabiola Campillay (ind) and the abstention of the legislator Francisco Huenchumilla (DC).

As the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies supported the measure earlier, with the approval of the Senate the extension will become effective.
The ex-president Sebastian Pinera decreed on February 15 the State of Exception in the four indicated provinces. Through the same mechanism, it was extended for another 15 days, on February 24. Subsequently, the Executive requested the approval of the National Congress for a new extension, which is valid until March 31. To the last will be added the one approved this Tuesday by Congress.
The Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, indicated that this will be the last extension of the measure requested from Congress.
