For the alleged crime of malicious embezzlement, the Prosecutor’s Office requested the coercive measure of nine months of pretrial detention against the regional governor of Loreto, Elisbán Ochoa Sosaand another 11 investigated.
The request was presented by prosecutor Celina Otero, from the Third Office of the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office Specialized in Corruption Crimes of Loreto Officials. The thesis of the Public Ministry indicates that, in 2020, during the state of emergency due to COVID-19, the regional authority and the other defendants authorized the contracting food and accommodation for stranded citizens in the jurisdiction for compulsory social immobilization.

However, alleged irregularities were found in the service orders executed under direct contracting, such as the lack of documentation. In the same way, it was noticed in up to four orders that they did not have the signature of the suppliers, but that they were still collected.

This would have generated a economic damage of more than 78,000 soles to the detriment of the Regional Government of Loreto.
In the next few days, the Maynas Preparatory Investigation Court will schedule the hearing date.
