Jonathan Malagón, Minister of Housing, He announced his resignation on Wednesday. that Susana Correa will assume for now.
(Jonathan Malagón would leave the Ministry of Housing).
Through a statement, he thanked President Duque for having appointed him and explained the reasons for his resignation.
Below is the letter:
“On behalf of my wife Natali, my son José Gabriel, my parents and brothers, I want to thank the President of the Republic, Iván Duque Márquez, for having allowed me to work for my country from the Ministry of Housing, City and Territory; the most valuable experience of my professional life.
I have renounced this honor for personal and family reasons that can be summed up in the need to accompany my wife during her pregnancy and enjoy the company of my parents after the difficult times we are experiencing due to COVID-19.
During these 1,325 days of Government exercise, we achieved things that many branded as impossible. We managed to consolidate Colombia as the country in the hemisphere where houses are bought the most per capita, reaching historical figures in the sector, where on average every two and a half minutes a Colombian can fulfill the dream of having their own home.
Likewise, reinforcing President Iván Duque’s commitment to equity, we increased the allocation of VIS subsidies for families with incomes below two minimum wages from 26% to 80%. In addition, today 6 out of 10 subsidies are assigned to women heads of household.
(Duque confirms Jonathan Malagón as Minister of Housing).
Also, we demolished the myth that young people do not buy a home and through initiatives such as Young Owners we consolidate an irreversible trend, today, 43% of VIS homes are purchased by Colombians under 30 years of age.
For its part, thanks to the joint work between Social Prosperity, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Housing, we managed to benefit more than 600,000 Colombian households through the Casa Digna Vida Digna program, a commitment to equity that allows Colombians receive titles and improvement of housing and environments.
Finally, in terms of drinking water, we managed to give more than 2.5 million Colombians access to the precious liquid for the first time. This means that on average every 45 seconds a Colombian is connected to the service. This has been thanks to the completion of more than 315 drinking water and basic sanitation projects that have improved the living conditions and dignity of millions of people in Colombia.
(In February, 21,363 homes were sold in the country).
I thank the more than a thousand collaborators of the Ministry of Housing, City and Territory with whom I had the opportunity to share and work as a team. Thanks to the commitment, passion and vocation of each one, we have managed to transform the lives of millions of Colombians. This team understood that dreams are dreams to the extent that we can make them come true, to them all my respect, admiration and affection”.
