The President of the Republic, Iván Duque Márquez, will install this Thursday the fourth edition of the Skills Summit (Skills Summit 2022) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and Colombia is the first Latin American country to host the event.

At the Summit, which takes place in the Julio César Turbay Ayala Convention Center, in Cartagena, On Thursday and Friday, the Secretary General of the OECD, Mathias Cormann, will participate.
This year meets with the motto ‘Strengthening skills for equity and sustainability’, with the participation of ministers, ambassadors and experts from 35 countries of the Organization and 7 world organizations. In the context of recovering from the effects of the covid-19 pandemic, ministers and delegates will have interactive discussions with keynote speakers and bilateral meetings.
This summit focuses on strengthening skills for equity and sustainability, providing effective opportunities for improvement and rehabilitation for the entire society. In this way, SkillsSummit 2022 it gives ministers and senior officials from participating countries new responsibilities for the various portfolios, related to skills from employment and education.

For the Government of Colombia, as host of the meeting, this meeting represents a unique opportunity to participate in transparent and open discussions, based on experience, on the design and implementation of policies that address the challenge of developing and empowering the capacities of citizens, especially the most vulnerable.
THE PEAKS OF SKILLS
The Skills Summits are held every two years and offer ministers and other officials from OECD member countries the opportunity to exchange information on public policies and experiences on skills and abilities for work, participation and inclusion. Social.
In addition, the meetings study best practices and analyze effective government measures to promote the well-being and facilitate the productive life of youth, women, migrants and other population groups.
Colombia was announced as the venue for the fourth Skill Summit last November, within the framework of COP26, held in Glasgow (United Kingdom) and in which President Duque participated.
Previous editions were led by Norway (2016), Portugal (2018) and Slovenia (2020).
SCHEDULE
The Skills Summit begins on Thursday 24 at 2:00 pm, with the interventions of President Duque and Secretary Cormann.
The various segments will include OECD executives, including the Deputy Secretary-General, Ulrik Vestergaard Knudsen; the Chair of the Education Policy Committee, Maureen Mclaughlin, and the Chair of the OECD Committee on Employment, Labor and Social Affairs, Ilze Zvīdriņa.
Speakers will be Kate Behncken, Vice President of Microsoft Philanthropies; Linda Darling-Hammond, professor at the Stanford University Graduate School of Education (USA); and Charles E. Ducommun, professor emeritus at the same institution, and founding president of the Learning Policy Institute.
Likewise, the First Lady of the Nation, María Juliana Ruiz Sandoval, and Keishia Thorpe, from the USA, winner of the Global Prize for Teachers, of the Varkey Foundation, will participate.
The Summit includes three side events:
-Improve and retrain present and future generations: organized by the Colombian Family Welfare Institute (ICBF) and the Presidential Council for Youth, in which the Shake Yourself Strategy will be presented, which supports more than 370,000 adolescents and young people, men and women, in more than 700 municipalities of the 32 departments of Colombia.
-Skills for the Orange, Digital and Green Economy, organized by the National Apprenticeship Service (SENA) and the Ministry of Labor. This event will be at the Training Center in Hospitality and Gastronomy of SENA in Cartagena.
-Skills and immigration systems, event organized by the National Planning Department in conjunction with the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Education, the Directorate of Migration and the Directorate of Border Affairs of the Presidency. The efforts of the Government of Colombia in the public policy of regularization and inclusion of the Venezuelan migrant population in the labor market will be shown and will include both the government entities in charge of this effort, the migrants who are participating in the programs, as well as employers who are participating in the different instruments and programs.
