Since last January, the administration of the International Airport of the Americas (AILA) suffers from a shortage of drinking water that must be supplied by the sewerage corporation small mouth (Coraabo).
The Director of Communications of Dominican Airports XXI, Luis José López told Free Journal that due to this situation they have had to buy 40 to 60 trucks of water “daily” to meet the demand for the precious liquid in the airport facilities.
“For us to guarantee that there is always water in the bathrooms, for the aircraft and more, we have been buying between 40 and 60 trucks of water a day, each truck costs 3,750 pesos.”
López assured that the water of Coraabo it arrives every night, but in such a low flow that it is not possible to fill the cisterns: “That is why we have to reinforce the supply with trucks, the water from the aqueduct barely supplies 50% of the airport’s needs.
The problem not only affects the AILAthe weakness in the water supply reaches homes in the neighborhoods of La Caleta and small mouth.
In a meeting held this Wednesday, the Sewerage Corporation of small mouth (Coraabo) and Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), the entity explained that the problem is due to the fact that some wells of the aqueduct have been out of service causing poor service.
“They explained that they have had a problem with their system of wells which is the source of water supply for the entire area of La Caleta and small mouth and they have left several services wellsthat prevents them from having the capacity to supply the amount of water demanded by the area and demanded by the airport”, indicated the press officer.
As a result of this meeting, López explained that Coraabo He promised to expedite the repair of the wells to normalize supply as soon as possible. “They estimate at the end of March,” said López.
