The road accident rate was reduced by 9% during the bank holiday

On the festive bridge of San José (from March 19 to 21), a total of 384 claims were filed, 40 less than what was registered in 2021 and which represents a reduction of 9 percent.

The Minister of Transport, Angela Maria Orozco stated: “The balance of this festive weekend in San José is positive, it is with facts and equipment that we show the country important results with a reduction in accidents during these days of 9% thanks to the good behavior of the drivers and the permanent accompaniment from the various entities of the transport sector to provide security to travelers”.

For his part, the Deputy Minister of Transportation, Camilo Pabón Almanza, stated: “During these days, 3,674,088 vehicles were mobilized through the different highways of the country, an increase of 6% compared to last year. More than 1,100,000 passengers were mobilized at the land terminals and 394,796 did so at the air terminals. Of which 269,439 went to and from national destinations and 125,357 from and to international destinations”.

According to figures from the Traffic and Transportation Directorate of the National Police (Ditra), 4,719 subpoenas were imposed, and 6,886 drunkenness tests were carried out, of which 99 were positive.

At the end of this festive weekend in San José, I highlight the behavior of Colombians on national roads, abiding by the biosafety measures stipulated by the Ministry of Health and respecting traffic regulations, which allowed the reduction of accidents in 9%. However, we call on drivers not to break traffic regulations, since the penalties for drivers registered an increase of 24%.”, assured the Major General, Juan Alberto Libreros.

For its part, the Transport Superintendence intensified its operations in the company of Ditra, carrying out around 46 operations in land terminals, tolls and main roads in the country. In these activities, compliance with regulations was verified in relation to more than 1,130 vehicles.

The Superintendent of Transportation, Wilmer Salazar, stated: “From the Terrestrial Terminals authorized by the Ministry of Transportation, we accompanied the more than 1,100,000 passengers who traveled in 121,841 vehicles through the roads of the national territory. We sensitized, oriented and carried out intermediaries with 9,542 travelers who traveled by air, land and water. It is with facts and as a team that the Government of Colombia works to promote safe mobility for all in the different modes of transport”.

For this festive bridge prior to Holy Week, the National Road Safety Agency activated 14 educational points located in AAntioquia, Atlántico, Bolívar, Boyacá, Cesar, Cundinamarca, Magdalena, Meta, Nariño, Norte de Santander, Quindio, Santander, Tolima and Valle del Cauca. The strategy included Moto Skills and Bike Skills activities, seeking to generate training and prevention with awareness teams.
