Froilán Benegas is the hero without a cape of the moment, since with great courage and courage he was in charge of rescuing a child who had been clinging to a tree so as not to be swept away by the torrent. He himself says that he committed this noble act without thinking of himself but of the minor’s life.
In one of the many torrents that were generated during yesterday’s storm in Asunción, a child had been trapped in the central promenade of Molas López avenue, clinging with all his might to a tree so as not to be dragged by the water.
The images of that moment caused an impact and concern in several people, who, without knowing the identity of the minor, wished that he could be rescued by some sympathetic soul.
It was at that moment that a hero without a cape appeared: Froilán Benegas. He himself works as a security guard in a building located in front of the place where the child had been left.
As he told the media, the boy was desperate and screaming for help, so he decided to do something to get him out of there. “Apensa mba’eichapa asalvata suck, pe la ouva che akâme, cheve ndacheinteresai che trabajo, ndacheinteresai mba’eve”.

At that moment, he called a neighbor so that he could help him and, using a hose he found in the deposit, he walked through the torrent to get the minor out.
“Ñandejara, che guiamina, pea la ouva che akâme, ha upei ajepoi upepe”, Froilán recounted in an interview with the media that covered this heroic rescue.
After reaching the trapped minor, he began to talk to him to give him more peace of mind and prevent him from letting go of the tree. According to her account, they decided to remain clinging to the tree for 30 minutes until the water level drops.
After having rescued him, the boy was taken away by his guardians in a vehicle, although he did not have the opportunity to ask his name, what he was doing in that area or where he was from.
People pass by, congratulate him, bless him and thank him for the heroic gesture he had in saving a child who was hugging this tree, in the midst of a murderous torrent.
