The National Association of Importers (ANI) promised to continue supplying the Dominican market with the quality products and supplies necessary to consume and produce, in the industry and in the Dominican countryside.
He gave the guarantee against the impact of the recent crisis due to the war between Ukraine and Russia, which directly affects the Dominican Republic, especially essential products. The president of the ANI, José Antonio Álvarez, highlighted the importance of the bill deposited in the Chamber of Deputies by the Executive Power which, provisionally, levies zero tariffs on certain goods that affect the cost of basic foods to feed the Dominican family. The ANI said that if approved in the National Congress, said project will be an important contribution at a time of uncertainty for the most vulnerable sectors of the nation.
“The initiative of President Luis Abinader seems correct to us, since it has the important purpose of mitigating the impact of price increases in the family shopping basket, as a result of the current international crisis,” he said.
He clarified that since 2020 the economy has been impacted due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this added to the effects of increases in the price of oil.
