Banorte calls on Mexicans to recover Banamex

They call to “recover the National Bank of Mexico”

“Grupo Financiero Banorte would call on Mexican citizens, families and businessmen to recover the National Bank of Mexico and form a Mexican banking champion,” the bank said in a statement.

The financial group added that although Citigroup’s conditions for selling Banamex are not known, if they are favorable it will ask its shareholders and Mexicans to join as investors.

“This is a historic opportunity to strengthen the national banking system, bringing together businessmen and the Mexican public. For Banorte, it would be a pride to lead this initiative, in case it is judged beneficial for our investors and banking users”, assured Carlos Hank González, Chairman of the group’s Board of Directors.

How could you buy a part of Banamex?

Banorte’s plan is to enable its more than 1,100 branches and different service channels to allow all Mexicans to buy part of the bank.

In addition, they will invite all the businessmen that make up the regional councils and local councils to join as investors.

“An eventual purchase of Citibanamex would result in the formation of a true Mexican banking champion, who would make decisions in Mexico, capable of competing and beating the best in the world,” the Group said.
