Hugo Velázquez, Vice President of the Republic and presidential candidate for the Colorado ruling party, traveled to Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Friday, March 18. Surprisingly, Chartism decided to plan an extraordinary session to save Sandra Quiñónez, Attorney General, since Sunday afternoon.
The filing of the initiative took place on Tuesday morning with the support of 10 pro-government deputies who did not support the political trial.
Hugo Estigarribia, former national senator for the ANR and political analyst, stated that what happened in the Chamber of Deputies was a “scar” pact for impunity. He affirms that with the rescue of Sandra Quiñónez, it was exchanged for the rescue of the commander of the Paraguayan Navy.
“It’s what it seems, that Velázquez takes away votes from the Chamber of Deputies where the issue of impeachment was hot makes us think that,” he said, alluding to the fact that the Vice President decided to take Ángel Paniagua to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for a meeting of political leaders. This represented one vote less for the approval of the judgment.
Estigarribia pointed out that the absence of pro-government deputies, plus the traveler Paniagua, reinforce the suspicion of the new “scar operation” that was launched in the ANR. To this is added the presence of pro-government deputies during the session to provide the necessary quorum and thus be able to discuss the project.
“It is a pact of impunity. Commander Velázquez was for the Senate. The vice president says; I protect your secretary (Sandra Quiñónez) and you don’t bother Fuster and Velázquez. He reveals that these two sectors appear to be at odds, but are actually together. They act like corsairs,” she detailed.
On the other hand, he questioned the attitude of the Liberals who, with their abstentions, practically voted against it.
“There are 11 who tacitly voted against. They are lukewarm or irresponsible and part of a pact. I really believe that political judgment should also be considered when the votes were available, in the sense of opportunity. Participation should have been carried out with more benches. There were two problems, the moment and the form of the presentation”, he pointed out.

Cristian Bianciotto, a journalist from the political area and director of Oviedo Press, affirmed that Velázquez physically moved away from the noise with his trip to Dubai, but continued to operate from a distance to make the salvage exchange between Erico Galeano, Sandra Quiñónez with Carlos Velazquez.
“Either we both fall or we both stay alive. I don’t know what will happen for December, because the memory of the Paraguayan electorate is very short, but it is one more evidence of where it is heading, which are personal and sectarian interests”, he stated.
He expressed that it is a pact of impunity, a scar operation that arises after each internal fight in the ANR.
“They will continue like this until they survive in power, until 2023. Here the Colorados used the position of an opposition group for permanent warning. That pressure was used to settle their differences,” he stated.
