Minsa spokeswoman on vaccination decline: “There is a co-responsibility between us and the population”

Minsa spokeswoman on vaccination decline: "There is a co-responsibility between us and the population"

The director of Immunizations of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), María Elena Martínez, considered this Tuesday that the slowdown in the rate of vaccination against COVID-19, which has already been admitted by the Minister of Health Hernán Condori, is a “co-responsibility shared between us and the population”.

Before the first and second waves, the perception of the population was to go en masse to health establishments. Today we see another scenario in a third wave, where there has been a decrease in cases and the cases that were very mild. I believe that there is a co-responsibility between us and the population, which has trusted that this could be less complicated”, he pointed out in RPP.

When asked about the actions that the Minsa will carry out to get out of this worrying situation, Martínez mentioned the launch of a persuasion campaign for parents.

The official stressed that vaccination in children has been a breaking point and coverage is low for this target group, so it will also be promoted “the healthy school where teachers and students are vaccinated”.

According to what he said, in the Minsa there are just over 21,000 trained teachers, who join the health workers with their “multiplier effect”.

He added that at the same time actions have been coordinated with the municipalities and community agents who are very close to the community are being trained, which will allow clear messages to be transmitted.

So that (these) tell the population that both the first and second waves were very critical and disastrous for the country, and when we already vaccinated we were able to contain the third wave”, he emphasized.

Finally, Martínez assured that he will take corrective measures so that no staff of the vaccination brigades is left without receiving payment for their work.
