The Minister of Productive Development, Néstor Huanca, announced this Sunday that around 80,000 tons of hard yellow corn will be stockpiled to supply the livestock sector and thus guarantee the production and price stability of eggs and chicken, beef and pig.
“With the new harvest, it is expected to collect about 80,000 tons of corn to supply the poultry, pig and livestock sectors, to guarantee the production of eggs and chicken, beef and pork meat at a fair price,” the authority said in an interview with state media.
He mentioned that, during 2021, an export of 57,000 tons of hard yellow corn was registered, unlike in previous years when an average of 2,000 to 3,000 tons was exported. While in January more than 700 tons were sold to the foreign market.

In the case of sorghum, he reported that for this management a production of more than one million tons will be reached, of which 700,000 will be for the domestic market.
In sugar, a production of 11 million quintals of sugar is calculated, of which 9 million are required to cover internal demand, he asserted.
In this understanding, it justified Supreme Decree 4680 that guarantees the supply of corn, sorghum and sugar in the domestic market in order to take care of the population’s diet, within the framework of the food security policy.
“The objective of the decree when issuing the supply certificates at a fair price, what it will do is guarantee the supply of corn, sorghum and sugar to the domestic market. Our priority will always be first food security, the production and provision of food to the population, ”he indicated.
