The theme of the two-day meeting is “Partnering for Unity, Justice and Development” and Prime Minister Imran Khan will deliver the meeting’s keynote address, Radio Pakistan reported.
The meeting will deliberate on the challenges facing the Muslim Ummah and the way forward to promote unity, as well as economic and trade relations, as well as the situation in Palestine.
OIC Foreign Ministers will also discuss developments in Yemen, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Syria and other regions.
The session coincides with the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence.
Foreign ministers and dignitaries from OIC member and observer states will attend the Pakistan Day parade tomorrow as guests of honour.
Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi is attending as a special guest.
Senior officials from other countries, representatives of the United Nations and regional and international organizations, such as the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council, also participate.
The conference plans to reaffirm the fight against Islamophobia and will discuss strategies to counteract the effects of climate change, inequality in the distribution of vaccines and the erosion of progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
The meeting will take stock of the decisions taken at the Special Session of the OIC Contact Group held in Islamabad in December last year on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
During the two days of the session, more than 100 resolutions will be examined, The Express Tribune newspaper reported.
Many African issues are also on the agenda of the summit, such as the situation in Mali, the Sahel region and Lake Chad, Central Africa and the Republic of Guinea.
