The Human Rights Secretariat presented the publication "denialism"

The Secretariat of Human Rights of the Nation presented this Monday the publication “denialism”aimed at “promoting debate and reflection on the phenomenon of denialism and ways of addressing it on the public agenda”, in an act at the “Haroldo Conti” Memory Cultural Center, which included the participation of the Secretary of Human Rights Humans, Horacio Pietragalla Corti.

“It is very important to be able to generate these spaces for reflection that can bring clarity to those of us who have political responsibilities,” Pietragalla Corti said at the event.

He added that “human rights are not conquered forever, it is a constant battle that we have to carry on”and called to be alert “against the maneuvers of real power and the hegemonic media that seek to stigmatize national and popular militants.”

They were also the national deputy Hugo Yasky and the Buenos Aires legislator Victoria Montenegrin, both from the Front of All; members of human rights organizations and other authorities and officials of the Human Rights Secretariat.

The first issue of the collection was presented at the event “Repertoires. Perspectives and debates in terms of Human Rights”an editorial project of the Secretariat aimed at “reflecting and disseminating the contributions and central discussions of the academic and dissemination field on issues of the human rights agenda,” according to what they communicated.

This publication aims to “provide a historical and sociological view” of the phenomenon in Argentina, establishing dialogues with the problem of genocide denial in an international perspective.

The chief of staff of the Human Rights Secretariat, Nicholas Rapetti, was in charge of the presentation of the panel made up of Pietragalla Corti, accompanied by the sociologist and researcher Daniel Feierstein; the professor of the UBA and the National University of Quilmes, Alejandro Kaufman, and the doctor in Criminal Law and director of Human Rights of the UBA, Valeria Thus. One of the main axes of discussion was the relevance of advancing in legislation that criminalizes speeches and behaviors of denial as a way of dealing with this problem.
