Congressman Alejandro Muñante (Popular Renovation) spoke about the proposal made by former President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti about collecting signatures to advance the general elections. The parliamentarian emphasized that to affirm that new elections will solve the political crisis in the country is to pursue a “political slogan.”
“If someone claims that early general elections is the only way out of this crisis, then they are pursuing a political slogan. The country’s structural problem is the institutional crisis. Crisis aggravated by caviars, who paradoxically, are today asking them all to leave”, he wrote on his Twitter account.
This as a result of the suggestion you gave sagasti for an advance of the presidential and congressional elections to choose new leaders of the two main powers of the State.
“Citizens can request a constitutional amendment to shorten the presidential and congressional terms. (Needed) 75,600 signatures”, said the former president during an interview he gave to ‘Cuarto Poder’ last Sunday, March 20.
“The authorities owe themselves to the citizens and what we can do, in this case, all citizens, is to exercise the right that the citizens have to propose constitutional modifications. For that there is a law of citizen participation and control”, he added.
Durand questioned Sagasti’s proposal
The former Minister of Women Anahí Durand also spoke about the former president’s proposal on the possibility of anticipating the elections. In that sense, she questioned him and asserted that “I would not change anything”.
“(Francisco) Sagasti, like (Patricia) Juárez in Congress, seeks to change the Constitution for convenience with a partial reform of early elections. I wouldn’t change anything but they think they have a chance to win. What we need is to respect the popular will and a comprehensive change, a #NewConstitution”, wrote the also president of New Peru.
