The Mayor’s Office began the demolition of a retaining wall on Max Portugal Avenue, located in Alto Obrajes, and announced that the road will be closed for at least 60 days. For its prompt authorization, the commune demanded that the Public Social Water and Sanitation Company (Epsas) replace the water and sewage pipes.
“Initially, we need to carry out a controlled demolition of the retaining wall that has already collapsed due to water leaks,” said the municipal secretary of public infrastructure, Boris Bacarreza.
The retaining wall collapsed on Max Portugal Avenue, between the Verde cable car station and the Arco Iris Center, in Alto Obrajes. Bacarreza specified that the event affects the area because it is an exit route, connecting with 10th Street in the sector and the Puente de la Esperanza, and its authorization, he said, will depend on the replacement of sewage and drinking water pipes. .
“We have estimated a 60-day job, but that time can be extended depending on Epsas intervening in a timely manner, if it does not, we as the Mayor’s Office will be unable to restore the road service,” Boris Bacarreza reported.
Mayor Iván Arias summoned Epsas to carry out its work and take charge of enabling the sewage system, parallel to the work carried out by municipal workers. “It is the result of non-compliance with the work of an institution, whose mandate is to take care of the sewage system and drinking water. There are leaks and broken pipes in the Max Portugal, that goes into the ground and ends up causing this disaster”.
