The Ministries of Agriculture and Economy signed today (21) an agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to grant a credit line of US$ 1.2 billion for development projects in agricultural production chains.
The credit line will be available for ten years and can be used by federal and state government entities and financial institutions that act as intermediaries with the private sector, in accordance with the rules established by the External Financing Commission (Cofiex).
One of the beneficiaries will be the Support Program for Agricultural Development in the Northeast (AgroNordeste). The project will have US$ 230 million for the development of economic activities and land and environmental regularization.
In the assessment of the Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, the project will have an impact on small producers. “This could be a revolution for family farming, because that’s all they need. I was very impressed with the successful cases of small producers served by the AgroNordeste program. The transformation is impactful, especially in the Northeast,” she said.
