Five departments registered a decrease in the number of covid cases in epidemiological week 11, which led to a national reduction of 3% compared to the previous week. Despite this, the Minister of Health and Sports, Jeyson Auza, warned that the pandemic has not ended, so he sees it necessary to take extreme biosecurity measures and speed up the vaccination process.

“Right now we are in a pandemic situation in which we cannot believe that the increase in cases is going to subside. We cannot think that the pandemic is over or the virus has disappeared,” Auza said, after being asked about the possibility to eliminate the mandatory use of chinstraps and describe Mayor Iván Arias’ proposal as “irrelevant”.

“What is happening in other latitudes of the world has to make us prepare and also take the forecasts as we are doing to date,” he added.

Specifically, Santa Cruz lowered infections this week by 40%, Beni by 21%, Chuquisaca by 21%, Potosí by 40% and Oruro by 53%. While the regions that reported an increase were Pando with an increase of 220%, Cochabamba with 90%, Tarija with 50% and La Paz with 20%.

“Cases have decreased for seven consecutive weeks, in the penultimate week they have increased slightly, today the cases also decrease slightly. That has to give us the possibility of acting as if we were in the highest escalation of cases. We cannot go down guard at any time,” he stressed.
