The plenary session of the Supreme Court appointed today the minister, Angela Vivanco Martinezas the new spokeswoman for the highest court, after the resignation of the minister was accepted, Gloria Ana Chevesichwho has exercised this function since the beginning of 2020. Thus, she becomes the second female spokesperson and first female minister of origin outside the judicial career to hold this position.
Indeed, Minister Vivanco joined the Supreme Court on August 8, 2018 in an external quota, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.
The new spokesperson is a lawyer from the Pontifical Catholic University and a Doctor of Law and Social Sciences from the University of La Coruña, Spain. She is a professor of public law and researcher of various academic projects of said house of studies, since 1993. In addition, she served as dean of the Faculty of Law of the Santo Tomás University between 2011 and 2012, and as academic vice-rector in said campus until 2016. .
This is without prejudice to a long history of free exercise and informant in Law of numerous public and private institutions, as well as a recognized speaker at national and international academic events.
Minister Vivanco has published various articles on her specialty and also books, including: Freedom of Opinion and Information (1992); Manual of Electoral Legislation (1993), The disposition of life in Chilean Law (2016) and Constitutional Law Course (with several editions between 2011 and 2021).
In the Supreme Court it integrates the Third Chamber or constitutional chamber; he chairs the psychosocial risk, vulnerable groups and plain language subcommittees and is a member of the Communications Committee of the highest court in the country.
