Any “compromise” in negotiations with Russia to end the conflict will be put to a referendum in Ukraine, the president said on Monday. Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with a Ukrainian regional public media.
“I explained it to all the negotiating groups: when they talk about all those changes [que figurarían en un eventual acuerdo, ndlr]which can be historical […]we will come to a referendum,” he told Suspiln, a Ukrainian information portal.
“The people will have to decide on some forms of compromise. And [los compromisos] will emerge from our conversations” with Russiahe added.
Zelensky referred to the key issue of the NATOan organization that his country will not be able to join, as he recently acknowledged.

Russia says it wants a guarantee that Ukraine will never join NATO, an organization created to protect Europe from the threat of Soviet Union at the beginning of the Cold War and which later spread, with the incorporation of new members, to the gates of Russia.
