Retail sales in the state of São Paulo reached BRL 988.3 billion in 2021, a growth of 10.2% compared to the previous year. The data, released today (21), are from the Conjunctural Survey of Retail Trade in the State of São Paulo (PCCV), by the Federation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of São Paulo (FecomercioSP). 
Invoicing in 2021 also surpassed, by 13.4%, the result of 2019, the year before the Covid-19 pandemic, when the retail trade had revenues of R$ 871 billion. For FecomercioSP, the good performance can be explained by the payment of emergency aid and the increase in credit and formal employment.
“Last year, around 1 million new formal jobs were created, while credit concessions were leveraged thanks to improved employability. In addition, there was an almost complete flexibility in the opening hours of the stores and the payment, albeit on a smaller scale, of emergency aid, representing an important increase in income for consumption”, says an explanatory note from the federation.
“Added to this scenario are the stimuli for the recovery of repressed demand and the injection of government resources, albeit moderate”, adds FecomercioSP.
According to the survey, the commercial sectors that most contributed to the growth in retail sales were supermarkets (R$ 331.9 billion); construction materials (R$91.1 billion); vehicle dealerships (R$ 88.9 billion), and pharmacies and perfumeries (R$ 80.6 billion).
