Government launches measures to encourage biomethane production

President Jair Bolsonaro participated today (21) launching measures to encourage the production and sustainable use of biomethane. Renewable fuel is obtained by purifying biogas and can replace natural gas, diesel and gasoline.Government launches measures to encourage biomethane production

After an interview in the garden of Palácio da Alvorada, Bolsonaro drove a biomethane-powered tractor to Palácio do Planato. It took him approximately ten minutes to make the journey of about four kilometers between the official residence and the Planalto.

The Minister of the Environment, Joaquim Leite, signed an ordinance that creates the National Program for the Reduction of Methane Emissions, the Methane Zero, which will represent advances in the generation and use of biomethane from urban and rural waste.

“The Methane Zero program treats city garbage, rural garbage. These are waste from poultry, swine, sugar cane, dairy products and landfills. All this to generate biogas, which generates energy, and biomethane, which generates fuel for heavy vehicles. We will have the opportunity to ride on trucks, tractors and buses powered by biomethane, reducing fuel costs,” said Leite.

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, signed an ordinance that includes investments in biomethane in the Special Incentive Scheme for Infrastructure Development (Reidi). The ordinance will exempt new projects from charging PIS/Cofins for the acquisition of machinery, construction materials and equipment. It will thus contribute to the construction of new biofuel production plants, expanding supply and having a positive impact on energy and environmental sustainability.

“We are taking a new step towards consolidating an open and competitive market that we are looking for, by providing bioenergy investors with the same condition that natural gas producers already had,” said Albuquerque.

According to the federal government, the insertion of biomethane will enable the construction of new plants for the production of the fuel, increasing the supply of the product and the installation of green corridors for the supply of heavy vehicles, with an impact on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. stove. The total planned investment is over R$ 7 billion, with the generation of at least 6,500 jobs, in the construction and operation of the new units. The idea is to build 25 new plants in six states (SP, RS, SC, GO, MT, MS).

President Jair Bolsonaro said that in a short time the country could have the equivalent of four times what it receives from Bolivia in gas, without taxes. “If the rural man is going to do something to generate energy, he will not pay PIS, Cofins, nor the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services. line we have with taxes”.
