The Mayor's Office evaluates the return to classes as positive and records that 64% of students do not have health insurance

After the first week, the return to school was rated as successful by Rául Ascarrunz, Municipal Director of Education. Although a positive case of covid-19 was detected in an educational unit, Bertha Cuéllar, the Mayor’s Office acted immediately, according to the Ascarrunz report, who detailed that the educational unit was disinfected.

In his evaluation of the first week of school, the Director of Education reported that 754,909 complementary food rations were delivered (school breakfast) in fiscal and agreement educational units.

He indicated that six schools were closed, either because they were making repairs to their infrastructure, or because the parents decided to continue with blended or distance classes.

The municipal authority referred to the delivery of biosafety supplies, consisting of a thermometer to take the temperature at the entrance of the schools, and 70% alcohol. He noted that delivery was made to 13 of 15 districts.

The pending ones are the municipal districts 8 and 11. Ascarrunz explained that this material is delivered to the sub-mayoral offices so that from each one of them it can be distributed to the educational units. He recognized that, in some cases, the parents strengthened this endowment, with supplies purchased on their own.

Regarding the spare parts in schools, he reported that el 90% of educational infrastructures have already been serviced in a first phase, in which bathroom batteries are refurbished, glass is changed and false ceilings are fixed to prevent leaks. He announced a second stage dedicated to beautifying the schools, with the painting of walls and fields.

For his part, the Secretary of Health, Roberto Vargas, reported on the form that parents were given to fill out regarding the health of the students.

The Municipality already has more than 5,000 records and it is hoped that parents will be able to continue providing this information, which, up to now, has made it possible to identify 3,387 students do not have health insurance, compared to 1,866 who are insured by SUS. Vargas undertook to manage -through the Municipality- these boys.

Also, with these forms it was found that six students suffer from a type of cancer; nine have chagas and five are hypertensive. The Secretary of Health indicated that they will work individually with these student-patients to give them the respective treatment, in order to prevent later complications. For this, they will contact the Headquarters and work in a coordinated manner.
