The deputies of the Dear Fatherland Party will present a bill to suspend the payment of VAT, to people whose income does not allow them to make ends meet, satisfying their basic food needs.
The proposed suspension will be -if approved- temporary, in order to mitigate the strong impact on the family finances of the poor, of the current inflationary escalation.
According to the projectionists, the number of families whose income is not enough to complete the month, acquiring the basics for subsistence, increases considerably.
They mention that those who receive the current minimum wage, contrasting figures that are verified in the local market, can no longer buy just enough to sustain the escalation of family food costs.
Currently, it is estimated that approximately 250,000 people receive the legal minimum wage.
For the next few days, meanwhile, the meeting of the National Minimum Wages Commission is scheduled, which must decide the salary amount according to the inflationary scale, provided by law.
At this time of year, the prevailing inflation is 9.3%, according to the official scale determined by the Central Bank of Paraguay.
