Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that he exercised "without delay" actions against the accused Iranian minister

Ahmad Vahidi is accused of being one of the intellectual authors of the AMIA bombing in 1994

The Argentine Foreign Ministry reported that it carried out “without delay” and with “urgency” the actions within the scope of its powers before the visit to Pakistan carried out in February by Iranian official Ahmad Vahidi, accused of being one of the intellectual authors of the AMIA bombing in 1994.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs published in the last hours a clarification on social networks based on information that he considered “erroneous” by the newspaper La Nación.

“The same day that the Argentine Foreign Ministry became aware of the displacement of Ahmad Vahidi to Pakistan, it carried out actions without delay and with urgency within the scope of its powers,” posted the portfolio led by Santiago Cafiero.

In this regard, he stated: “Contrary to what the note in La Nación says, the Argentine Foreign Ministry learned of the displacement of Ahmad Vahidi to Pakistan on February 10, 2022 informally, and not on January 14 as indicated in the newspaper. And the effective notice It was February 14.

“Since February 10, the Foreign Ministry has been in contact with UFI AMIA officials and provided advice to the Federal Court on the current treaties between Argentina and Pakistan. The OCN Interpol was also notified,” added the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement. publication in which he attached the corresponding documents.

Furthermore, he stated that “On February 11, the Argentine Representation in Pakistan presented a verbal note to the local authorities warning of the possible visit of Ahmad Vahidi on February 14, 2022.in order to remind that country that an Interpol Red Index circular weighed on it”.

“Finally, on February 14 and not on January 14 as the newspaper La Nación says, Judge Capuchetti issues the preventive detention order, received that same day by the Argentine Foreign Ministry and immediately sent to Pakistan,” the Foreign Ministry added.

And he pointed out that “although Ahmad Vahidi was only in Pakistan on February 14, the Foreign Ministry warned of the displacement in advance. Even before the court order was issued, the local authorities had already been alerted about the visit and about the red alert that weighed on him.”

“The personnel of the Foreign Service of the Nation will continue to work jointly with the Judiciary with a single objective: the search for justice and truth,” concluded the Argentine Foreign Ministry.

Vahidi, who serves as Iran’s interior minister, is charged as the intellectual author of the AMIA bombing.

In August of last year, the Foreign Ministry had expressed its “repudiation” of Vahidi’s appointment to a ministerial post in Iran for considering that it constituted an “affront to the Argentine Justice and to the victims of the brutal terrorist attack against the AMIA” perpetrated in July 1994.
