Three weeks after the revocation of the mandate, the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) filed an appeal before the Electoral Court of the Judicial Power of the Federation, urgently
in order to rule on the constitutionality of the decree approved by Congress, to interpret
the scope of the concept of electoral propaganda in the current law. During the week a constitutional controversy will be presented before the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the organization Follow Democracy sent an official letter to the President Councilor of the National Electoral Institute, Lorenzo Córdova Vianello, so that this organization allows the installation of what they called citizen boxes
that complement the ballot boxes that the institute will officially display. In justifying the request, they point out that it is due to the insufficiency of the polling stations that the INE will have (57,000), which correspond to only a third of those established by the electoral law (which must be the same ones that were installed in the presidential election, that is, 160 thousand).
The representative of the PRD before the INE, Ángel Ávila, maintained that the claim of the appeal is to motivate the higher chamber to rule “on the merits of the unconstitutionality of the decree of Congress, because the specialized chamber -he assured- determined that it is not applicable because it was not approved 90 days before the process began, as provided for in article 105 of the Constitution.
Meanwhile, Let Democracy Follow, demanded that the INE expand the possibilities for citizens to vote. Based on articles 1, 8 and 35 of the Constitution, the document states, which establishes the right of citizens to vote, they asked Córdova to open the possibility of citizen voting booths so that voters can express their will on April 10.
The document raises the INE which is a citizen requirement and mandate of the law
install more voting booths (the same number as in the last presidential election, about 160,000).
