The community of the Bartolomé Ayrolo school for the deaf, from the Villa Devoto neighborhood, will meet again this Monday at the establishment to reject the transfer of one of the school buildings to the project carried out by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires (CABA) for install the so-called Wine Districtwhich aims to promote wine activity in the district.
The situation will be similar to occurred on March 2when officials from the Ministry of Education went to the school to dialogue with the directors about the future of Palacio Ceciwhich generated a massive protest from the school community at the gates of the institution.
The school, which is attended by students at the primary, secondary and adult levels, concentrates the dictation of the classes in an adjoining building that is seven years old, while it kept part of its tasks, especially the meetings of teachers and administrative tasks, in the Palace.
In that old building, the school for the deaf and dumb functioned since 1938 and also for decades there was a boarding school for children from the interior of the country.
According to what sources from the Buenos Aires Executive told Télam, the intention is that the building “does not have exclusivity for educational tasks”, but rather expands its uses, among them, that it serves as one of the headquarters of the Wine District and, for this , began the renovation works, which will demand expenses for 200 million pesos.
“We demand that the City Government respect the City Constitution and call a public hearing to inform the community about the fate of the public property where the remodeling works have already begun,” said the organizers of this Monday’s activity.
