Teams from the Secretary of State for Civil Defense (Sedec-RJ) and the Military Fire Brigade of the State of Rio de Janeiro (CBMERJ) are mobilized to prevent and minimize the damage caused by the rain that began to fall in Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of Rio, this afternoon (20).
According to the Fire Department, until 5:30 pm, the military had been called for five incidents in the city, including a landslide threat on Rua 24 de Maio, with no casualties, and the rescue of people stranded.
The State Center for Monitoring and Alerting Natural Disasters in Rio de Janeiro (Cemaden-RJ) monitors weather conditions and rainfall 24 hours a day in the state, sending alerts to the regions in case of risks of landslides or floods.
According to Cemaden-RJ, the highest rainfall record so far is 207.8 mm in 4 hours and the most affected locations were Dr. Thouzet, Vila Felipe and Independence.
