The congressman from Popular Force, Raúl Huamán, criticized the appointment of Avelino Guillén as Minister of the Interior after noting that, when he served as Supreme Prosecutor, he used “fallacious arguments” to convict former President Alberto Fujimori.
In statements to Canal N, the legislator considered that this designation is a “challenge” towards his bench. However, he specified that his position is personal.
“In my opinion, the government likes to shoot itself in the feet. He is challenging Fuerza Popular. We know of his career as a prosecutor, with false arguments, in complicity with the judges, they sentenced Alberto Fujimori to 25 years for being the alleged author of La Cantuta and Barrios Altos. We know that justice is an ideal, and in the same way justice has not been done with other former presidents”, He said.
Guillén, it is recalled, was the deputy prosecutor who sustained the accusation against former President Alberto Fujimori for the massacres in Barrios Altos and La Cantuta. In 2009, the former president was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
The former supreme prosecutor was sworn in as the new Interior Minister to replace Luis Barranzuela, who resigned last Tuesday and whose resignation was accepted by the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo.
Guillén Jáuregui was part of the technical team during the second round in which Castillo Terrones prevailed over the Popular Force candidate, Keiko Fujimori, and participated in the technical debate organized by the National Elections Jury (JNE).
