Copa do Nordeste quarter-final clashes are defined

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced the dates and times of the quarter-finals of the Copa do Nordeste. Two clashes open the new stage of the competition this Tuesday (22), at 21:35 (Brasilia time). Fortaleza receives Atlético-BA at Arena Castelão, in the capital of Ceará, while CSA meets Sport at the Rei Pelé stadium, in Maceió.Copa do Nordeste quarter-final clashes are defined

On Wednesday (23), Botafogo-PB faces Náutico in Almeidão, in João Pessoa, at 20h. Finally, on Thursday (24), CRB visits Ceará at Arena Castelão, at 7pm.

The duels for the quarterfinals and semifinals will be decided in a single game, in the home of the team that has the best campaign. In case of a tie during the 90 minutes, there will be a penalty shootout.

The winner of Fortaleza and Atlético-BA will have as an opponent in the semifinals whoever advances from Botafogo-PB and Náutico. The other clash will involve the winners of the duels between Ceará and CRB, and CSA and Sport. The prediction is that the games worth a spot in the final will take place next Saturday (26), and that the decision matches will be held on March 29 and April 2.

The last spots on Wednesdays were defined on Saturday (19). Atlético-BA, debutant in the Copa do Nordeste, secured classification in Group A by drawing goalless with Sousa at Antônio Carneiro stadium, in Alagoinhas (BA). Carcará secured fourth place in the bracket, with 11 points. The team from Paraíba, which needed to win and hope for other results, was in the way, ending Group B in sixth position, with 11 points.

Even if the Bahians had lost, they would have won a place in the next phase, as Sampaio Corrêa was defeated by Botafogo-PB by 2-0 at Castelão, in São Luís, parking in the seven points, fifth in Group A. victory, Belo qualified in second place in Group B, with 15 points.

Náutico secured third place in Group B, with 14 points, by beating the eliminated Globo by 2-0 at Barrettão, in Ceará-Mirim (RN). Worse for the current champion Bahia, who beat Sergipe 3-1 at Batistão, in Aracaju, but ended the bracket with 13 points, in fifth position, outside the G4, one point behind CRB, fourth. Gipão, by the way, ended the group stage with the worst overall campaign, with only one point won in eight games.

CRB, which started the weekend already classified, lost 2-0 to Fortaleza at Arena Castelão. Leão do Pici secured the leadership of Group A, with 16 points, two ahead of CSA, in second place, who beat the eliminated Altos by 3 to 0 in Rei Pelé. The third place in the group went to Sport, who said goodbye to the first phase with a 3-0 over Floresta, on Ilha do Retiro, in Recife. The top of Group B, in turn, was confirmed by Ceará, which defeated Campinense 1-0 at Amigão, in Campina Grande.
