Rio de Janeiro, which has already registered the highest temperature in Brazil in recent days, will experience a change in climate today (20th). The heat is with the days counted to the end of summer, which ends at 12:33 this Sunday. Autumn starts with a forecast of moderate to heavy rain showers, accompanied by lightning and moderate wind gusts, between 18.5 km/h and 51.9 km/h; to strong between 52 km/h and 76 km/h, (20/03). Alerta Rio reported that the reason for the change is the passage of a cold front.
At around 9:30 am, satellite images indicated that the cold front was positioned over the state of São Paulo. According to Alerta Rio, the action of prefrontal instability areas, which are those formed before the approach of the cold front in the city of Rio, already had an impact on the climate in the city, bringing light to moderate rain in the morning, such as that recorded in the Guaratiba (3.6 mm) and Grota Funda (0.2 mm) stations, in the west zone.
Yesterday, the highest thermal sensation reached 46°C, in Santa Cruz station. At 14:00 the thermometers showed a temperature of 38.5°C.
For tomorrow (21), the rain should continue with moderate to heavy intensity during the morning and morning periods, becoming weak to moderate in the afternoon. Winds will be moderate to strong throughout the day.
Worry
Alerta Rio meteorologist, Christiane Nascimento, drew attention to the most worrying periods. “We emphasize that the most intense rain should occur between Sunday night and Monday morning, when we may have the most significant accumulations”, she pointed out.
Numerical weather forecast models for this period indicate accumulations of 30 mm at some points, and may even exceed this mark.
On Tuesday (22), there are conditions for isolated light rain during the dawn and morning and the winds will be moderate throughout the day.
On Wednesday (23), cloudiness should decrease, but the forecast is for cloudy to partially cloudy skies with no prospect of rain in the city.
