Santo Domingo – The president of the Senate of the Republic, Edward Starsaid that the position of Senator Antonio Taveras on the Chamber of Deputies is personal, that it is not that of the Plenary or that of himself as president.
This, as a result of the exchange of offenses that has taken place between Alfredo Pacheco, president of the lower house, and the senator from Santo Domingo, after the latter called the deputies of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), “irresponsible and hypocritical” by according to, delay the approval of the Penal Code.
Estrella said she did not agree with Taveras’ opinion, because it should be respected. She explained that there is a good relationship in both chambers, “if we maintain an excellent relationship in the Senate even with the opposition parties, much more so between both chambers.”
“The criminal code is a project that stirs many passions and everyone wants to have a tailored suit and a perfect law,” he said.
“The best code was approved in a bicameral commission, but it would be an intrusion on my part to tell the Chamber of Deputies when to hear a project, when to reintroduce it or when to approve it,” he added.
About the Law of
Regarding the Domain Forfeiture Law, he said that it was approved once in the Senate and is currently being studied by a bicameral commission and work has been under way.
“The approval of this law is a commitment that Congress has,” he said. He expressed that both he and the president of the Chamber of Deputies agree that the country needs such a law.
He explained that the Forfeiture of Assets does not enter into a civil sphere, “there are people who are apprehensive about the scope of the law, but the law is specific to properties obtained through corruption, drug trafficking or money laundering,” he said.
In an exclusive interview for the program Truths on the Air of the communicator Adolfo Salomón, the legislator said that another aspect that has caused reservations is about the retroactivity of the law, “but the constitution itself does not allow this,” he stressed.
He noted that sometimes there are sectors that are desperate and sometimes even without having read it well, they issue opinions. “With God there will be a Domain Forfeiture Law and there will be a Penal Code,” she assured.
Similarly, Estrella referred to some projects submitted by Abinader after his rendering of accounts at the joint meeting of both chambers in the National Congress, such as the Hydrocarbons Law and the Public Trusts Law.

Regarding the Trust Law and the Law of the Accounts Chamber, he said that both were empowered to the Treasury Commission and that they will be given priority so that next week the first one will be in place and that it will be a general regulation for trusts. .
