MIAMI, United States. – Maritza Lugo Fernández, Cuban exile and president of the November 30 opposition movement, rejected the accusations by the Cuban authorities that point to her as the alleged “intellectual author” and financier of the alleged armed incursion by sea denounced by the regime, and affirmed that the operation in which four Cubans died was “a massacre,” as he declared in an interview with Martí News.
The accusation against Lugo was broadcast in a special program on Cuban Television, in which officials of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) They presented her as the “main leader” of the action and assured that some participants were linked to her organization, in addition to attributing economic and logistical support to her.
Lugo described these accusations as “absurd” and said: “For more than 40 years, that regime has accused me of being a terrorist and everything it can think of. I am calm because I know that all of that is a lie.” He also denied having organized, financed or trained the men who traveled on the boat and added: “They say I trained them on my farm. That is unusual. The only thing I can teach is to pray. I am a religious person. I have no money or resources to finance absolutely anything.”
In her version, the activist maintained that the official narrative does not explain what happened and assured that “the testimonies and information that has circulated” indicate that the Cuban authorities were waiting for the boat. “It was an atrocious crime, a massacre,” he said.
Relatives of the crew members have denounced a lack of information about the injured and survivors. “They have not even said where the injured are, nor have they allowed the families to know about their loved ones,” Lugo said.
After the events, the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubiomentioned the possibility of an independent investigation. “I think it’s a wonderful idea. Many things will come out of that against that murderous regime,” Lugo said.
In the same interview with Martí NewsLugo called for urgent diplomatic intervention from the president donald trump and Rubio. “I ask that something be done quickly to save the lives of those patriots, if they are still alive,” he said.
Lugo attributes the accusations to her history of opposition to the Cuban regime: she said she has been in confrontation with the regime for more than four decades, having served years in prison for activism, and denounced persecution against her organization. “The hatred against us has been going on for decades. They have always invented accusations against me and against our organization,” he declared.
