The Ministry of Education reported yesterday that it is working rapidly on the rehabilitation of seven school buildings that were affected by the floods caused by the overflowing of the Joba River, in Gaspar Hernández, Espaillat province.
In a statement, the entity indicated that the director of School Infrastructure, Roberto Herrera, conducted a tour of the affected schools, in which he confirmed that some of the impacted educational centers suffered considerable damage, loss of furniture, files, appliances, disposable materials and other utensils.
According to the document, Herrera installed the contractor, brigades that work on the rehabilitation of the affected school buildings and guaranteed that in a week the schools will be ready to resume teaching in that tourist municipality.
The affected centers are Juan Pablo Duarte Basic School, in the El Caimán community, which suffered severe damage and the demolition of a part of the perimeter fence; the Martina Villa de Mejía Educational Center, in the La Hoya sector; the Professor Baudilia López Primary School, in Mata de Guanabano; the El Caimán Educational Center, among other schools.
During the weekend, President Luis Abinader was in the area supervising the damage and ordered an immediate intervention.
