Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón pointed out that there are still 759 people deprived of liberty for political reasons in the country. He highlighted that this figure includes the cases that were validated after the official announcement of releases that was made on January 8.
The organization Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón (JEP) reported that they have confirmed 603 releases in the period between January 8 and March 2.
The NGO noted that between January 8 and February 20 – prior to the approval of the Amnesty Law – they confirmed 459 releases of people detained for political reasons.
Subsequently, after the entry into force of the legal instrument, they have verified 144 releases that “not necessarily” are linked to the application of the standard.

On February 27, the Penal Forum organization presented the balance of political prisoners until the 25th. According to the NGO, to date there are 568 political prisoners. Among those detained are 182 soldiers and 52 foreigners.
Lawyer Gonzalo Himiob, director-vice president of the organization, after presenting the consolidated figures, highlighted that the NGO is reviewing “hundreds of previous cases” that were reported by relatives.
