Jorge Rodríguez: changes in the prosecutor's office and defense are part of the strengthening of institutions

The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, in an interview with journalist Luis Olavarrieta, assured that “the country is at peace” and is moving towards a process of “intensive review of the judicial issue.”

Rodríguez assured that the vast majority of people agree and recognize the efforts of all political sectors “to maintain peace and seek consensus.”

He also noted the steps that have been taken to strengthen institutions. On the one hand, the call made by the National Assembly for the selection of the new Attorney General of the Republic and the Ombudsman, after having received their resignations, as well as the approval of the Amnesty Law, as well as the “deep” review of the judicial issue.

“We have just approved the Amnesty Law, a law that is very profound in its mission, in what it seeks, which is reconciliation, the meeting between Venezuelans, not looking in the rearview mirror,” he expressed.

Rodríguez highlighted the meeting that the acting president Delcy Rodríguez had with the victims of violence from 1999 to the present. «Surely mistakes were made, have no doubt about it, but we have no difficulty in asking for forgiveness in cases where it is necessary, when that has happened. But there are also cases in which people committed serious acts of violence, at odds with the tranquility of the country, acts that affected the Constitution and the laws of the Republic and in summary an amnesty law is a law of forgiveness, where the State, through a mandate granted to it by the National Assembly, forgave a series of acts that were clearly established in the norm.

Rodríguez clarified that the Law Monitoring Commission goes further, because it is possible that there are people deprived of liberty and who are not subject to the Amnesty Law. “There are some controversial events that were not covered by the amnesty law and that is why this commission, more than because of the deterioration of the institutions, the strengthening of the political life of the country, of the political relations of the country, so that people can do and say what they want to say and at the same time respect the Constitution and the laws,” he stressed.

He highlighted that there are 5,628 people who have received full freedom within the framework of the Amnesty Law.

Transformation or reconfiguration of political power

“For the first time in many years, a series of political actors are seeking a series of consensuses so that the flow of political life is more dynamic, it is a transcendent fact,” said Rodríguez and highlighted the unanimous approval within parliament of the Amnesty Law, underlining the participation of the opposition in the Monitoring Commission with deputy Nora Bravo, from Un Nuevo Tiempo, at the head of the vice presidency of this instance.

Will there be elections in Venezuela?

«There will always be elections in Venezuela, there are established periods and there is no doubt, we will reach consensus, political agreements, but the most important thing right now is society, the economy, that people feel that their most important needs are being attended to. «, declared the president of parliament.

Rodríguez took advantage of the occasion to remember and emphasize that Venezuela is experiencing a unique moment, in relation to the lack or absence of the President of the Republic, which is not established in the National Constitution.

“There is a forced absence of the President, which is why the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice intervened and ruled that because there was no resignation from the President or a request for permission, but rather his departure was forced, then the vice president assumes the role,” he explained.

However, he clarified that this will not be a limitation to undertaking a dialogue with the political sectors and society, “more than for a call for elections, for a process of strengthening all institutions,” he said, mentioning public powers, including the institution of voting.

«In this way that when elections are called that will have to be done by consensus, (…) everyone feels that they are calm»

In Rodríguez’s opinion, the Venezuelan opposition is a terrible winner
