A Frenchman is arrested in the Dominican Republic when he tried to travel to Paris with cocaine

a citizen French was arrested at the international airport Punta Canain the east of the Dominican Republic, when he was trying to travel to Paris with four packages of cocaine in his luggage, the National Drug Control Directorate reported this Monday (DNCD).

The agency explained that members of the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC) also participated in the arrest, under the coordination of the Public Ministry (Prosecutor’s Office).

The DNCD stated in a note that several of its elements and canine units detained the passenger in the departure area of ​​the terminal, after which they proceeded to search his luggage where they found the narcotic substance camouflaged among articles of clothing.

The 25-year-old Frenchman will be brought to justice in the next few hours for violating the law on drugs and controlled substances, while the Public Ministry and the DNCD continue their investigations to determine if there are others involved in the frustrated operation.

“We are facing international drug trafficking structures, which recruit people (mules) of different nationalities, to traffic controlled substances to the United States and Europe”added the organization.

The National Drug Control Directorate affirmed, on December 29, that the Dominican Republic strengthened its leadership in the Caribbean region in the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime during 2025, after the seizure of 48.3 tons of different narcotic substances, the result of national operations and coordinated actions with allied countries.

Furthermore, so far this year, the Dominican authorities have destroyed at least 6,000 kilograms of drugs, at a time when the US, since August 2025, has been carrying out an attack operation against speedboats leaving South America and which the Donald Trump Government claims are destined for its country.

In 2025, the authorities of the Caribbean country destroyed 31,252 kilograms of drugs, while in 2024 there were 44,157 kilograms.
