HAVANA.- The political prisoner Marcos de la Luz Caballero Granados He denounced the improper use of his image by Cuban state media. The inmate communicated by telephone last Friday, February 27, 2026.
In his most recent complaint, the political prisoner pointed out the official Mesa Redonda program, which he accused of repeatedly using his image to promote discredit campaigns against young people who, like him, “have done their bit in favor of the true freedom of the Cuban people.” This is not the first time that his image has been used in Castro propaganda media.

At that moment Caballero Granados similarly referred to the intervention of an officer of the State Securitywho stated that the young man’s statement while he was in captivity was made spontaneously. However, the political prisoner clarified that this was not the case, but on the contrary he was threatened that if he refused to testify they would add other crimes that he had not committed either. The young man also emphasized that the aforementioned recording was used without his consent.
Caballero Granados was sentenced to ten years in prison in retaliation for exercising his right to freedom of expression, after writing posters demanding “Milk for the children.” The authorities accused him of the alleged crimes of “continued enemy propaganda” and “continued contempt.”
The young man was arrested on February 11, 2020, when he had not yet reached the age of majority. He is currently held in the Los Caneyes Youth Center, a forced labor camp located in Santa Clara, Villa Clara province.
Likewise, he criticized that the regime’s media once again described him as a terrorist, with the objective – as he stated – of making the international community believe that those who fight for freedom “are nothing more than funded terrorists.”
“Today I want my voice to be heard and reach all human rights organizations, and that they put an end, once and for all, to the harassment that we political prisoners who are serving sentences in Cuban prisons receive,” said Caballero Granados.
The young man is a native of the Habana Vieja municipality, in the country’s capital. However, he was transferred from the Combinado del Este maximum severity prison to the penitentiary center where he is currently located, located in the central region of Cuba.
The trial against him was held on December 23, 2020 in the Chamber of Crimes against State Security of the Municipal Popular Court of Diez de Octubre, based in the Víbora neighborhood, in Havana.
