Councilor Carlos Pinazzo’s proposals: road safety, firefighters and public spaces

Councilor Carlos Pinazzo's proposals: road safety, firefighters and public spaces

Firefighters access to the port

One of the main topics addressed was the need to guarantee more agile access for the Fire engine pump truck to the port area, currently conditioned by a height limiter installed on Route 12.

Pinazzo explained that the Firefighters cannot pass directly and must make a detour that delays their arrival in the event of an emergency in the port area. “What I was left with was that we had to find a solution so that the firefighters arrive in a timely manner to the port and its area of influence,” he said.

The proposal consists of placing a barrier before reaching the port, in a triangular space located to the left of the access, property belonging to the Ontemar company. As indicated by the councilor, the corresponding permit has already been managed and obtained, a tour was carried out with Firefighters and budgets were requested for the construction of the structure.

Speed bumps

Regarding traffic, the councilor also requested the “placement of specific signs that warn about pronounced speed bumps on Felipe Fontana Street, at its intersections with Carmelo, Eloy García and Lucas Roselli.” As he explained, the signs that were there are no longer there, which “represents a risk for drivers.”
In addition, he reported that the improvement of these speed bumps is being evaluated to reduce their pronunciation and thus “end Felipe Fontana’s problem,” complementing the intervention with new signage.

Zebras

Another issue was linked to pedestrian safety in the educational environment. Pinazzo requested the “painting of zebras on streets where schools operate before the start of classes,” a concern that was conveyed to him by Leda “Charo” Bentancour. The objective is to reinforce prevention and organize traffic during student entry and exit times.

Take care of the green

Finally, the mayor expressed his concern about the state of trees and decorative plants on avenues and the promenade, many of which “are drying out due to lack of maintenance.” He consulted about the responsibilities in the care of these spaces, which correspond to the landscaping area of the Municipality, and proposed assigning personnel from the Uruguay Avanza program—once new wages enter—to collaborate in irrigation.

The initiative includes assigning a driver, a truck and a water tank to carry out periodic maintenance tasks. “It is a shame to place plants and that no one takes care of them; they dry out and that should not be like that,” he said.

Pinazzo acknowledged that the drought and lack of personnel make the tasks difficult, but pointed out that the possibility of resuming the systematic care of the green spaces was raised when program workers join.
