Dgcim arrests former Vice Minister of Sports Alexander “Mimou” Vargas

Alexander “Mimou” Vargas was Vice Minister of Sports, member of the Movement for Peace and Life Foundation, and was appointed by Maduro as the Presidential High Commissioner for Peace and Life.


Officials from the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim) arrested on Saturday, February 28, former Vice Minister of Sports Alexander “Mimou” Vargas, who was a close collaborator of Nicolás Maduro.

Sources of The Pitazo They confirmed the arrest of Vargas, without specifying the reasons for the arrest. A photograph of the moment of the arrest circulates on social networks, in which “Mimou” Vargas is seen leaving one of the vertical gyms built in Caracas with his hands handcuffed.

Vargas was Vice Minister of Sports, a member of the Movement for Peace and Life Foundation, and was appointed by Maduro as the Presidential High Commissioner for Peace and Life.

The former basketball player also presents himself on social networks as the president of the Frontinos del Táchira club, a team from the Professional Basketball Super League.

In one Transparency Venezuela investigation Vargas’ participation was noted – while he was a deputy and presidential high commissioner – in events organized by foundations allegedly linked to at least two criminal gangs in the state of Bolívar.
