Wingo begins the Caracas-Medellín route in full reactivation of flights to Venezuela

Wingo plans to expand its offer starting in April with a daily flight between Bogotá and Caracas, which will increase its capacity in one of the most relevant international markets for the company.

The Colombian low-cost airline Wingo began this Sunday, March 1, its new direct route between Medellín and Caracas with three weekly frequencies, a step that reinforces air connectivity between Colombia and Venezuela after the suspension caused by tensions with the United States.

“Wingo announces the start of operation of its Medellín-Caracas route as part of its commitment to contribute to an increasingly solid connectivity between Colombia and Venezuela,” the company said in a statement, in which it highlighted that with this opening it consolidates itself as the only Colombian airline that directly connects the Venezuelan capital with two cities in the country.

The new route will operate three times a week, on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays, and makes Medellín the airline’s second direct connection point with Venezuela, complementing the link between Bogotá and Caracas, which was resumed on January 16.

In addition, Wingo plans to expand its offer starting in April with a daily flight between Bogotá and Caracas, which will increase its capacity in one of the most relevant international markets for the company.

“This growth represents our commitment to maintaining accessible connectivity, with a low-cost model that allows more people to meet again and stay connected between Colombia and Venezuela,” said Wingo’s Commercial and Planning Vice President, Jorge Jiménez, cited in the statement.

Flights between Colombia and Venezuela were suspended at the end of November after the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recommended extreme caution when flying over that country, which led to restrictions by the Venezuelan authorities.

In recent weeks, several airlines have resumed their operations due to the progressive reopening of air connections. Latam Colombia resumed its flights between Bogotá and Caracas in February and plans to operate daily frequencies from April, and Avianca restarted that same connection with a daily operation on February 12.
