The National Police, through its internal control bodies, reported on the suspension and sending to the Public Ministry of several police officers, including a colonel and a captain, by alleged theft of money in the development of an investigative process that they were carrying out in the province of San Cristóbal.
In accordance with the recommendation of the Legal Affairs Directorate of the institution and in application of article 165 of Law No. 590-16, Organic of the National Police, the aforementioned agents were suspended from carrying out their duties.
These precautionary measures are implemented while the internal investigation by the Internal Affairs Directorate of the National Police deepens, with the aim of guaranteeing a rigorous, transparent and legal process, without undermining the legal guarantees of those involved.
In accordance with institutional guidelines, both officers were formally notified in compliance with regulatory procedures.
The aforementioned members of the National Police, whose names are withheld for the moment, have been placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry of the jurisdiction of San Cristóbal, for the purposes of the corresponding criminal investigation, within the framework of due process and in accordance with current legal provisions.
The National Police reaffirms its commitment to strict compliance with the law, institutional discipline and the highest ethical standards in the exercise of its functions. Likewise, it reiterates that any conduct that deviates from the principles of legality and probity will be investigated and sanctioned in accordance with due process and applicable regulations.
The institution will continue to report in a timely manner on the progress resulting from ongoing investigations.
