The former president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, had his death announced this Sunday (1st) by the state news agency Iranian Labor News Agency (ILNA). Ahmadinejad presided over Iran between 2005 and 2013 and was one of the targets of bombings carried out since Saturday (28) by the United States and Israel against the country.
According to published information, the 69-year-old politician died after the air strikes on Tehran, along with his bodyguards. He was at his residence, in the Narmak district, in the east of the Iranian capital.
Other Iranian officials were confirmed among those killed by the attacks, such as Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khameneiwho held the position for life for 36 years.
Also confirmed by Iranian state media were the deaths of the Secretary of the Defense Council, Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani; and the commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Major General Mohammad Pakpour.
Visit to Brazil
In 2009, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad paid an official visit to Brazilin which he discussed international issues with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, then in his second term. The former Iranian leader defended Brazil’s entry into the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
