Santo Domingo, RD.– The Government of the Dominican Republic stated this February 28 its deep concern at the growing escalation of tensions in Middle East and reiterated his call for peace, dialogue and respect for international humanitarian law.
The official position was made known through a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairsin which the authorities hoped for the prompt restoration of stability in the region. Likewise, they urged all parties involved to refrain from actions that could aggravate the conflict.
The document emphasizes that the Dominican Republicfaithful to its diplomatic tradition, considers that frank dialogue between the parties and the use of available diplomatic mechanisms constitute the surest way to reach a lasting solution. In this context, he urged regional and international actors with the capacity to influence to persevere in mediation efforts.

Likewise, the Dominican government condemned the attacks attributed to Iran against the Gulf States and expressed solidarity with the affected countries, including United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait.
The statement also warns that the current situation highlights the risks posed by the nuclear proliferation for global security, so the country reaffirmed its commitment to multilateral efforts aimed at preventing the development of nuclear programs for non-peaceful purposes.

Finally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it has instructed the Dominican diplomatic missions accredited in the region to adopt the necessary measures to guarantee the safety of their personnel and strengthen communication channels with Dominican citizens residing in the affected areas, in order to offer the consular assistance that each case requires.
