The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued this Saturday (28) a consular alert advising Brazilians to avoid traveling to 11 countries in the Middle East, following the military escalation involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
According to the statement, the measure was adopted “in light of the recent escalation of tensions in the Middle East”.
The recommendation is that citizens do not travel to:
- Iran;
- Israel;
- Qatar;
- Kuwait;
- United Arab Emirates;
- Bahrain;
- Jordan;
- Iraq;
- Lebanon;
- Palestine;
- Syria.
Guidelines
For Brazilians who are already in these countries, Itamaraty recommends extra attention and strict compliance with the guidelines of local authorities.
In the event of bombings or air attacks, the advice is to immediately seek the nearest shelter. Anyone on the street should look for subway stations, overpasses or underground parking lots. In residences, the recommendation is to remain in internal rooms, with at least two walls between the person and the external area of the building, keeping doors and windows closed.
The ministry also advises avoiding remaining in line of sight with the sky, prioritizing more internal areas of the structure and seeking shelter before using messaging apps or making phone calls. Another recommendation is to keep water reserves by filling bathtubs or large containers.
General guidelines include avoiding crowds and protests, following official channels of Brazilian embassies, monitoring the local press and checking that travel documents are valid for at least six months. In case of flight cancellations, citizens must contact the airline to reschedule.
According to Itamaraty, consular emergency situations are those that involve an immediate risk to the life, safety or dignity of Brazilian citizens abroad.
