The director of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (Cicpc), Commissioner General Douglas Rico, offered an assessment of the criminal incidents in the national territory, placing special emphasis on the evolution of digital crimes and the importance of citizen prevention, according to a report posted on Instagram.
The head of the Cicpc warned about the increase in disinformation campaigns and the use of digital platforms to harm the integrity of people. He pointed out that social networks, although they are communication tools, are being used by organized crime groups for cyberbullying, defamation, fraud, scams, among other crimes.
In that sense, Rico warns about scams through phone calls. The director of the detective force explained the most common modus operandi, where criminals impersonate representatives of government entities or telecommunications companies to obtain access codes and bank details; For this reason, he urged the population to be attentive to these calls, not to provide verification codes sent by SMS or WhatsApp and, likewise, not to lend their bank accounts; This contemplates a crime that would affect your integrity.
Commissioner Rico urged the population not to remain silent and to report any punishable act. On other occasions, Rico has told citizens that if they are not served well in an office, let them know.
